Connecting Stripe to take card payments

The Stripe onboarding page where Adminished sets up a new Stripe account for your club

Adminished uses Stripe Connect to handle card payments. When you click Connect, Adminished creates a dedicated Stripe account for your club — you don't need to sign up on Stripe yourself first. Money goes straight to your bank, and Adminished never holds your funds. Setup takes about five minutes once you have your business and bank details ready.

Do I need a Stripe account first? What if I already have one?

You don't need to create anything on Stripe beforehand — Adminished creates a dedicated Stripe account for your club the moment you click Connect Stripe. Please don't sign up on stripe.com separately first; a standalone account made there can't be plugged in here.

If you already use Stripe for something else, that's fine. During Stripe's hosted setup you can sign in with your existing Stripe login, so Stripe reuses the identity details you've already verified and you can send payouts to the same bank account — you won't have to re-enter everything. The account Adminished sets up stays separate from anything else you run on Stripe.

What you'll need before you start

  • Your legal business name and address (sole trader, club, or registered company).
  • Your date of birth and the last four digits of your National Insurance number (for the verification step).
  • Your bank account sort code and account number — this is where payouts will land.
  • A photo of your ID (passport, driving licence) on the device you're setting up from.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Settings → Payments in the main nav.
  2. Click Connect Stripe. You'll be sent to Stripe-hosted onboarding — this is Stripe's own form, not ours, so all your sensitive data goes straight to them.
  3. Fill in your business details, upload your ID, and enter your bank details. Stripe saves your progress as you go.
  4. When you finish, Stripe redirects you back to Adminished. The Payments settings page will show a green "Connected — accepting payments" banner.
  5. That's it. Card-payment buttons now appear next to every payment request, event ticket and drop-in slot.

"Almost there — needs a bit more information"

If you see a yellow banner saying your Stripe account needs more information, Stripe couldn't fully verify you on the first pass. This is normal — it usually means the photo of your ID was blurry, your address didn't match electoral-roll records, or one of the required fields was left blank.

Click Finish setup on Stripe. You'll be sent back to the same Stripe-hosted form with the missing items highlighted. Fix them and submit — the green "Connected" banner will appear within a few minutes.

Fees and what you keep

On every successful card payment Stripe charges ~1.5% + 25p (UK domestic cards). Adminished adds a 1% platform fee on top, so the total is roughly 2.5% + 25p. Everything else lands in your bank account on Stripe's standard payout schedule (next business day for most UK clubs).

You can pass the fee on to parents by ticking "Add transaction fee to price" when you create a payment request — see Who pays the fee.

Payouts and when money lands

Stripe pays out automatically on the schedule you set in your Stripe Dashboard (default: every business day). The first payout takes 7 days while Stripe runs anti-fraud checks; after that, payments collected on Monday land in your bank account on Wednesday.

To see every payout, go to dashboard.stripe.com → Payouts. Adminished does not duplicate this view — Stripe's own dashboard is the authoritative record.

Disconnecting Stripe

If you ever need to stop accepting card payments — switching to a different provider, winding the club down — open Settings → Payments and click Disconnect. Existing payment links stop working immediately. The Stripe account Adminished created for your club isn't deleted — any pending payouts still reach your bank. You can set card payments up again from Settings whenever you're ready.

Common gotchas

  • Sole traders without a registered business name: enter your full name as the business name. Stripe accepts this for individual coaches.
  • Bank account in a different name to the business: Stripe will reject the payout setup. Either change the bank account or change the legal business name to match.
  • "Platform profile incomplete" error: this is on the Adminished side, not yours. Contact support and we'll fix it within the hour.
  • Test mode vs live mode: Adminished automatically points you at live Stripe in production. Don't worry about toggling test mode — the onboarding link is correct as-is.
