When a member signs themselves up (adult self-learner)
Adminished supports adult members who are both the account holder and the student — your boxing class adults, your martial arts teens, your music students who are old enough to manage their own account. They sign up through the same link parents use, but choose an option that creates a single self-contained membership.
How it works
On the parent sign-up page there is a radio option: I'm signing up as the member myself. Selecting it adjusts the form so only one person's details are needed — the member is both the account holder and the student.
Age floor
The minimum age for self-signup is 13 years old. Anyone younger must be added by a parent or guardian. This follows UK ICO guidance on children's data and is not configurable.
What gets created
Self-signup creates three things in one step:
- A user account for the member.
- A parent membership in your club (the role that handles payments and communication).
- A student record linked to that same account — so they appear in your class lists, attendance, and payment reports exactly as any other student would.
All existing features — attendance, payments, messages — work without any changes because the underlying data model is identical.
Coach notification
You'll get a new-member notification through the same channel as a parent registering a child. The notification body will say "signed up themselves" so you can tell it apart from a standard parent registration at a glance.
Practical use cases
- Martial arts adult classes where members have no parent in the loop.
- Music or tutoring students aged 13 and above.
- Fitness, yoga, and dance for adult learners.
- Scout leaders or club helpers who need to be enrolled as participants for safeguarding records.
What the member sees
The self-learner logs into the standard parent portal. The "Your children" section shows You rather than a child's name, and lists their own attendance, payments, and messages. Everything else looks and works the same.
Adding a child later
If a self-learner later wants to enrol their own child, they can add a student from their portal. They then become both a self-learner and the parent of that child — both roles are fully supported from the same account.
